Borussia Monchengladbach will not be Andreas Christensen’s next destination, German club confirms

Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is eager to leave the club in the coming transfer windows after sitting out most of the games this season.

The 22-year old has featured in only three games, starting and finishing both Europa League games and playing a part in Chelsea away win over Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

His limited access to the first team has grown the frustrations on the young Denmark international who was hoping to add to his great numbers last season. Under Antonio Conte, Christensen became a regular starter, pitching camp alongside Antonio Rudiger and Cesar Azpilicueta in central defense.

But this season has been anything but. He was not even on the bench against Manchester United last Saturday and with reports growing that he is pushing to leave Chelsea, Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl revealed his side transfer kitty may not suffice if they want to go into the market for Christensen, while pointing out that his side are well stocked in the central defensive department as well.

“We’ve got an outstanding relationship with Andreas, but the topic is not currently on. We’ve got a top central defensive partnership, with Mathias Ginter and Nico Elvedi. Even if the player was available, Gladbach are wary that Chelsea’s asking price would have the potential of scuppering the deal.

Although we have some money to spend, I’ve heard that Chelsea will only sell Andreas if they allow him to leave, and the amount they will ask for is very large.”
