Chelsea set to reward Maurizio Sarri’s impressive start with £97.5m marquee signing from Serie A in January

Chelsea are said to be angling for a move for another striker in January as Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud continue to struggle to get goals this season.

His wish has not fallen on deaf ears at Stamford Bridge, with the top hierarchy at the club eager to reward Sarri after his explosive start to the season.

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea will attempt to sign Mauro Icardi from Inter Milan in the New Year to although they are faintly concerned by the price the Serie A giants will quote. Icardi is a top striker in the Italian league and continues to amaze Italian football followers with his numbers and impressive contributions to Inter’s attacks.

Chelsea may have to pay £97.5m for the Argentine if they are ready to pay off his release clause in his contract.

Another alternative for the Blues is Genoa striker Krzysztof Piatek, who has scored 13 goals in nine games this season. However, Chelsea may have to cough up to £30m for his signature according to the report by the Mail.
