Chelsea had given the green light to on-loan star Mason Mount to play against them in the Carabao Cup round of 16 clash on Wednesday.
The Blues held the power to allow their on-loan players Mount and Fikayo Tomori to feature in the top clash at Stamford Bridge, but the former may not play for Frank Lampard’s side and it isn’t the fault of Chelsea.
The midfielder predicted to have a glittering career, picked up an injury in the Championship last weekend, playing against Middlesbrough and now stands a risk of missing out on the top liner against his parent club in midweek.
The 19-year old is one of the best players in Lampard’s squad at the moment and his absence is certain to be felt. According to the head coach of County, Mount’s influence in games goes beyond just his assist and goals but also his ability to work his socks off.
“We’ll see. They are Chelsea players and this is an incredible opportunity for them. I don’t want to heap it on Mason but his quality, his talent and his work rate means he can be very special. Even if he is having a game where he can’t affect anything, his work rate without a ball is outstanding and that’s what picks him out.
Mason and Fikayo deserve the chance. This is an incredible opportunity for them and they should thank Chelsea and they should thank me for making the calls.”
