Chelsea have tied N’Golo Kante to a new five-year contract after weeks of negotiations and the deal now makes the midfielder the highest earner at the club but more importantly, it sends a huge message to the likes of Eden Hazard dragging their feet to commit to the club.
Hazard has yet to commit his future to the Blues amid talks he is on his way to Real Madrid. He had earlier said publicly that the club’s dealings in the summer would indicate their ambitions to him and may convince him to stay. However, despite beefing up their midfield with the arrival of Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, Hazard has yet to put pen to paper.
The signing of the new five-year deal should give a final indication to Hazard to repay the faith shown him by the club and their fans in the last few years.
Chelsea must keep Hazard and every key player they sign or keep in the squad could be a step in the right direction.
