Chelsea trail remaining top six in crucial attacking stats after first half of the season

When one takes into consideration the number of goals scored by the Premier League title contenders at this stage of the season, it is perhaps no surprise that Chelsea fans are craving for more.

The Blues have scored the lowest among the top six this season, with even Manchester United outscoring Maurizio Sarri’s men. Man City lead that ranking with 54 goals. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Man United all have over 40 goals, leaving Chelsea as the only side with 38 goals. But was it not this season, that Chelsea were expected to take the bull by its horns and play attractive and expansive football? So what happened?

The strikers would take a large portion of the blame after Olivier Giroud and Alvaro Morata both failed to score past six goals combined in the top flight. Morata has five while Giroud has one. Although Eden Hazard has bagged 10 so far, the other attackers have not contributed a lot to this, making it difficult for Sarri’s attacking football to have the desired end product as a complement.

The Blues need to jump at the opportunity to bring in a striker proven to bang in goals this January, or the season could turn out worse than it is now.
