Chelsea central defender David Luiz will likely remain at the club beyond next summer after his agent revealed the club and his representatives have begun contract talks.
The Blues are not ready to offer a longer contract than the one year deal they usually serve their players over the age of 30 years. However, Luiz is determined to stay at the club even if all he gets is a 12-month deal.
According to the London Evening Standard, Maurizio Sarri wants to keep the experienced center back in his squad and that is playing a big role in convincing the Brazil international to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Initially, the 31-year old made it clear to the Blues’ top hierarchy he was not comfortable with the short term deal but his agent Kia Joorabchian now confirms both parties are in a position to seal a deal soon.
“We are in a very amicable situation with Chelsea. We are trying to work out a deal for David Luiz because he wants to stay, the manager wants him to stay and so does the club. I’m sure something will be worked out.”

Luiz has been in fine form this season under Sarri alongside Antonio Rudiger.
