Chelsea’s new signing Gonzalo Higuain will see immediately the high expectations that await him after completing his move to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
The Blues made him their second signing of the January transfer window, following the initial capture of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund – a deal to go through in the summer. Higuain comes in with the heavy burden of scoring Chelsea’s goals that have dried up in recent weeks.
His core mandate will be to score goals but moving to the widely acclaimed high-octane league, Higuain must be wary of the new pace and intensity he will face in England. He needs to be in the right physique to succeed in this new league and must adjust quickly to the physical demands.
Maurizio Sarri knows how to get the best out of him having worked together in the Argentina international’s most prolific season at Napoli, scoring 36 goals in a 39-game league campaign. Higuain is a great finisher and loves a duel with an opposition defender, and that could work in his favor.
At 31-years the former Real Madrid striker is getting weary but if he will look back on his days at Stamford Bridge as successful, then he needs to do better than he has so far at AC Milan this season, scoring only eight goals in 22 games across all competitions.
