Major Chelsea star agrees to contract extension offer

Chelsea central defender David Luiz has accepted to put pen to paper at Stamford Bridge that will extend his current deal by a year.

The Blues hold a continuing club policy that prevents top officials from awarding players who are 30 years and over a contract that spans more than a year. That policy forced Cesc Fabregas out of the club this month to AS Monaco.

However, Luiz is taking a different course. He has opted to remain at Chelsea for another year when his contract expires in the summer according to Goal Brazil. He will now be free to walk away in 2020 if both parties do not see a future together.

Luiz has been an integral member of Maurizio Sarri’s squad this season, after falling out of favor under Antonio Conte last term. He now commands a regular starting berth alongside Antonio Rudiger and is seen as a leader in the Blues dressing room.
