Chelsea assistant coach Gianfranco Zola has outlined how new signing Gonzalo Higuain will improve to help his new teammates in the coming games.
Higuain played his first match as a Chelsea player in the FA Cup win over Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday and although he failed to get a goal on his debut, the 31-year old looked lively throughout the game. Before his substitution in the 82nd minute against Sheffield, he had gone close on three occasions, all with shots from inside the box.
His movement impressed the technical team and fans alike who had huge expectations for their new man. After Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud’s failure to get goals consistently, the hope in and around the Bridge is Higuain will finally bring back the days of prolific hitmen Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.
Gianfranco Zola certainly thinks so. The Blues’ legend says Chelsea fans must have patience for Higuain will showed promise in his debut performance that he will bang in the goals.
“Considering it is the first game, you will see more from him. A couple of times in the first half he made a couple of great moves but we couldn’t find the right ball.
I am personally satisfied with him, but he is going to get better because he needs to build up an understanding with the others. Sometimes in the first half he was making movements but we couldn’t see his movements and this is something we need to do.”
