Maurizio Sarri’s best days are well ahead of him in England, as recent results have corroborated. But that doesn’t mean Chelsea’s stars cannot respect the man who was touted to be set to introduce some of the best football the club has played in recent history.
Chelsea played very well against Manchester City, especially considering the fact they looked hapless in their 6-0 demolishing by the same opponent only a few days ago. The brilliance in the performance at Wembley Stadium was overshadowed by the absurdity that climaxed in the grand finale of the Carabao Cup.
Chelsea had held Man City to a draw in a cup final after extra time, and the big news instead was Kepa’s insolent behavior when his head coach Maurizio Sarri attempted to replace him with Willy Caballero.

Kepa waved off the substitution and remained in nets for the penalty shootout. David Luiz, says the positives from that game were evident. The stars from the Bridge had given the clearest hint – in their administration of duties on the pitch – of their backing for their much-maligned head coach.
“The first thing after the 6-0 we had to recognise what we did badly and try to improve. I think we did that [on Sunday] we showed that on the pitch against the same team. That’s why we played an amazing game.
We also wanted to show that with our performance because he’s a great manager, he’s a great person and he deserves our respect and deserves the respect of everybody. He can lift everyone for the rest of the season and that’s our goal.”
