Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard still feeling open “wound” from infamous slip

Chelsea fans’ rendition of “Steve Gerrard, Gerrard” tends to differ from the one sang at Anfield. We’re more interested in twisting the knife than giving him due credit for what a phenomenal player he was.

Gerrard was inarguably one of the best midfielders of his generation, but there’s one thing he’ll never be able to runaway from – he slipped on his back-side, he gave it to Demba Ba, and he threw away Liverpool’s chances of winning their first title in the Premier League era.

No matter how hard the ex-Reds captain tries to escape the infamous slip, it still appears to haunt him, as has been noted in this report by the BBC. Gerrard is quoted in the article revealing that his regrets over losing his footing in front of a packed-out Anfield are like a ‘wound’:

“This wound’s been open since my experience [in 2014]. I hope Liverpool [win] but it won’t make my wound feel any different.”

Unfortunately for Stevie G, and anyone else with any affiliation to Liverpool football club, history could be set to repeat itself. Jurgen Klopp’s men were previously firm favourites for the Premier League title this term, but currently sit one point behind champions Manchester City with nine to play.

It’d be unwise to consider it signed and sealed at this point, but Liverpool have history of bottling it when the pressure’s on, with the thermostat currently dialed up to max. Chelsea pay a visit to Anfield on April 14th, the players know exactly what they need to do.
