Chelsea winger Willian has confirmed that he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond his current deal, which is due to expire in the summer of 2020, report Standard Sport.

Soon after we discover that the club are unable to make transfers this summer, one of the fanbase’s most scrutinised players essentially confirms that he’s going nowhere anytime soon.
In case you’re unfamiliar with many Chelsea fans’ thinking when it comes to the Brazilian, here’s a taste of how he’s treated on Twitter. These fans are not happy with the news of a potential extension.

Not to say that the often exaggerated hatred directed towards Willian is justified, but with Callum Hudson-Odoi coming through, it would be a short-sighted move for us to keep him around.

That’s not on Willian’s mind, though, he has his heart set on one thing – staying at Chelsea. He’s quoted by Standard Sport revealing this, as well as outlining the reasons why:
“I have one year left, but of course I want to play for this club. I don’t know if they want me, but of course I want to continue here.”
“This club is very special to me. I won titles here, I have the affection from the fans and from the people that work in the club. I feel comfortable to stay. I am happy when I play well and score goals. I can give a different light.”
It’s certainly not a negative thing seeing that one of our most involved players is so desperate to remain in West London, but from a Chelsea fan’s perspective, we ought to let him go next year.
Willian is not going to get any better than he is right now. His end product is not going to develop further. If anything, he is going to lose acceleration – which is a key asset of his.
Whether or not he gets a new deal may well depend on who’s in charge come next summer. If Maurizio Sarri remains, we wouldn’t be surprised to see Chelsea bow to his demands.
