Chelsea striker Gonzalo Higuain has announced his retirement from international football after making 75 appearances for Argentina.
The forward was heavy on goals for his national team, having three-quarters of a century caps for the South American country and will be remembered for contribution in major tournaments. Higuain, however, has been particularly successful in club football than for La Albiceleste.

In an era, where he played alongside Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Carlos Tevez, and other great forwards, the Argentina team failed to lift a single major trophy despite playing three finals in three years.
His retirement will come as a blow for the Argentina national team. Though often unappreciated, Higuain deserves due credit for his contributions over the years.
“I think that it is over,” he said. “Thinking things through in depth, my time is up. I want to enjoy my family, and my time. To the joy of many, and maybe not so much for others, my time is up. You can now stop worrying about whether I am there or not.”

Higuain bagged 31 goals for Argentina. Only Messi, Gabriel Batistuta, Aguero, Hernan Crespo, and Diego Maradona have more. That is a hugely impressive bracket to fall in and Higuain can look back on his international career and be proud.
