Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck has offered some insight into the potential commercial benefits of signing USA international Christian Pulisic.
When Chelsea announced the signing of Pulisic back in January, our excitement stemmed from his ability as a footballer, rather than anything else.
However, in signing the greatest footballing hope of a nation the size of America, there are inevitably going to be commercial benefits.
Increased emphasis has been put on the commercial side of the business over the past decade at Chelsea. We’ve had a great deal of success in that area.

Bruce Buck believes that Pulisic can help us even further expand our profile across the pond. He’s quoted by Spanish outlet AS saying:
“The surveys tell us we’re very strong on both coasts, but we have some work to do in the middle, but in round terms I think we’re doing as well as any other big club.”
“He’s [Pulisic] a personable boy well-liked in his country, so of course I would expect and think he will be helpful when we come here and play some friendly matches, which is what our objective is for the summer.”
There’ll be little time for selfies and autographs if Pulisic does come with us to his native country in the summer. He has to focus on integrating with the squad.
It’s taken many of our current crop some time to develop their understanding of Maurizio Sarri’s methods. The sooner he gets to work on it, the better.
