Chelsea are interested in signing Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho, according to Spanish publication El Confidencial.
It’ important to begin by noting that there’s still no guarantee we will be able to make any signings this summer. All rumours are even more hypothetical propositions than they were before.
El Confidencial believe that Coutinho is very much a target, however, which would come as no surprise, even if he hasn’t been able to produce his best performances in a Barcelona shirt.
Coutinho excelled in an advanced midfield role as part of a three-man setup during his time as a Liverpool player. We have no doubt he’s capable of doing the same in a Chelsea shirt.

The only potential stumbling block, if our transfer ban is lifted, is the asking price. El Confidencial report that while Barca are open to selling, they will hold out for a figure near the €100M mark.
It’s unclear whether Chelsea would be prepared to pay that figure for anyone, let alone a player who has been off the boil.
We’ll keep an eye on this one as the summer approaches…
