Antonio Conte’s treatment of Diego Costa may have been baffling at the time, but his decision to axe the Spaniard has proven to be justified.
Conte deemed Costa to be a bad egg and subsequently got rid. Costa did his best to paint himself out as the victim, eventually forcing through a return to Atletico Madrid.
Costa and Atletico were a match made in heaven first time around, but all has not been rosy since he’s returned to the Wanda Metropolitano.

As a result, Atletico are prepared to cut their losses. Mundo Deportivo report that Costa has been listed on the transfer market, with Diego Simeone’s side prepared to sell to the highest bidder.
Costa wrote his name into Chelsea’s history and will always be remembered fondly by the fanbase, but it’s hard to deny that Conte got this one right.
Losing Costa and replacing him with the misfiring Alvaro Morata may have cost him his job, but it can be considered a parting gift to his successor Maurizio Sarri. He doesn’t have the hassle on his hands.
