Chelsea firmly in the driving seat despite imperfect first-leg result in Frankfurt

Chelsea are in a good state now as they seek a first European final since 2013 in Amsterdam. Their 1-1 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt is a good result, although imperfect.

The ideal result would have been a win – a  resounding one – that would’ve put fear in the hearts and minds of their semi-final opponents.

The script, though, did not adhere to what Maurizio Sarri and his players will have wanted.

The football played in Germany, especially in the second half, was delightful and the Blues stood tall for the most part of the game.

The second goal was elusive but nothing Chelsea would regret too much. There will be a second crack at the same opponents in a few days and Chelsea will hope the end product of their beautifully crafted attacks will be goals.

Any sort of win, or a goalless draw, at Stamford Bridge will secure the final for boys in blue, and Sarri will be surer of this, after the display on Thursday night.
