Chelsea in the firing line as Real Madrid prepare for record-breaking €500M+ summer

Chelsea’s chances of keeping hold of Eden Hazard are getting slimmer by the day, with AS reporting that Real Madrid have over €500M to spend this summer.

Hazard to Real Madrid is a rumour which we’ve had to learn to tolerate. We have to accept at this point that talk of the transfer isn’t going away, even with the player’s stance remaining ambiguous.

The reality is, after the season Real have had, Florentino Perez will be handing Zinedine Zidane a blank cheque in hope of asserting themselves as a force to be reckoned with.

Not quite blank, per AS, but not far off it.

The article’s headline reads like this: “Real Madrid: LaLiga giants plan 540m-euro summer spend”

Players mentioned as possible targets in the piece include Hazard (obviously), Paul Pogba, Christian Eriksen, Tanguy Ndombele and Luka Jovic.

That’s the best part of an entire new starting eleven, and why not, if they have the cash?

All we can hope is that their other targets prove less problematic to obtain, leaving them without the sufficient funds to purchase Hazard in the summer window.

Though, considering it’s Real Madrid we’re talking about, it’s hard to see that happening. If they genuinely have €500M+ to play with, Eden’s as good as gone.

According to the Daily Star, PSG currently hold the record for the biggest spend in a single season, having splashed £370.55M (€432M) on Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Yuri Berchiche.

Real Madrid could be set to break the record this summer – and it’d be bad news for Chelsea.
