Plans for the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge remain on hold, but Chelsea appear to be making moves behind the scenes to get the wheels in motion once again.
It would have been hard to stomach for the Chelsea hierarchy to see arch-rivals Tottenham (finally) unveil their gorgeous new 60,000 seater stadium.
Spurs are supposed to sit silently in our shadow, yet have a larger capacity crowd and have reached the Champions League final. It’s enough to make you throw up.
Whether it’s as a result of Spurs’ success or our own ambition, it looks as though Chelsea have had enough of delaying plans for the new stadium.
According to New Civil Engineer, Chelsea have considered moving the site of the stadium, but with planning permission already approved, the desire is to stay put.
It’s also claimed that the Blues are hoping to decrease the proposed £1bn stadium costs to nearer the £500M mark, which certainly seems a tough ask in the current climate.
While we fully understand why the redevelopment plans were put on hold, we need a new stadium in order to keep pace with the elite – and Tottenham.
Fingers crossed, we’ll see some movement on this front soon.
