Maurizio Sarri has claimed that Chelsea would be needing no more than two players if we are eventually able to sign players in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Chelsea’s squad is far from what Sarri would deem as ideal, at least that’s what we’ve believed all season. He’s been forced to field square pegs in round holes and has suffered the consequences.
The transfer market provides an opportunity for Sarri and co to shift the deadwood and replace them with players able of operating in his style of football – that is, if we’re allowed to sign anyone.
If, following an appeal to the C.A.S, Chelsea are given the green light to make transfers this summer, Sarri appears to have already put thought into who he’d like to bring in.
Our manager is quoted by ESPN saying:
“I don’t believe when you buy 10 players. I think we have to buy only one or two players.”
“It’s very difficult to cover the gap at the moment. We need to work, probably we need to do something from the market. It’s not easy, because the level of the top two is very, very high.”
“Otherwise it’s very difficult to improve immediately. I think we are a very good team, so we need only one, two players, no more.”
We’re not convinced that that’ll be enough to bridge the gap between ourselves and the top two. They’re incredibly strong, and we’ve faltered at every turn this season.
We ought to be looking nearer the three or four mark, especially if Eden Hazard leaves. That way we might have a chance of being competitive once again.
