Chelsea set to make first signing of the summer – despite enforced transfer ban

Chelsea are set to make their first signing of the summer in the shape of loanee Mateo Kovacic, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

Sport Witness provide the newspaper cutout for the article, while also translating it into England for us non-Spanish speakers.

The article leads on the idea that both Kovacic and Hazard are close to swapping clubs, with deals to settle the futures of the pair of them set to go through.

Kovacic is the one we’re going to focus on, with reports linking Hazard to Real Madrid too continuous and contradictory to entertain at this point in time.

Marca report (as translated by Sport Witness) that Chelsea are close to tying up a deal to take Kovacic to Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis.

There’s no mention of any figure, but it’s believed that the deal can still go through even if Chelsea find themselves unable to make any signings this coming summer.

Kovacic has hardly set the world alite during his debut season at Chelsea, but it’s his first season in the Premier League and he’s only going to improve as time passes.
