“He is a perfect fit” – Pundit reveals who should replace Maurizio Sarri at Chelsea

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has revealed his belief that Chelsea should pursue Brendan Rodgers if Maurizio Sarri is to depart the club.

Sarri has been under pressure at times this season, but it seems bizarre to be discussing his future after he’s qualified for the Champions League and got us to the Europa League final.

His relationship with the Chelsea supporters may be frosty, but their attitude towards him will change if Chelsea have their hands on the trophy in Baku at the end of the month.

Sarri also has a final day fixture to contend with on Sunday, where we can secure a third place finish with a victory over Leicester City, who have been enjoying life under Rodgers.

So much so, in fact, that the former Chelsea coach has been put in the frame to replace Sarri in the Stamford Bridge hotseat. Arsenal legend Merson is quoted by the Daily Star saying:

“Chelsea missed a trick not getting Brendan Rodgers and they should go back in for him this summer if Maurizio Sarri goes.”

“They should pay whatever it costs to get him because he is a perfect fit for Chelsea. He knows the club, plays good football, and is used to the pressure of managing in a tough environment.”

Rodgers is a good manager who knows Chelsea well. If Sarri were to depart, it would be no surprise if he was a name considered by the club to replace him.
