OGC Nice technical director Giles Grimandi has confirmed the Ligue 1 outfit’s interest in taking Olivier Giroud from Chelsea this summer.
Giroud penned an 18-month contract with Chelsea in January 2018. He has proven to be a more-than useful acquisition, but now looks set to depart in the upcoming transfer window.
Interest in the Frenchman is likely going to be high. His agent’s going to have a busy summer determining the best fit for his client, especially when clubs are flirting in the public eye.
The latest to turn their interest concrete is Nice, with director Grimandi openly revealing their interest. He’s quoted by the Daily Mail saying:
“If Olivier Giroud decides to come that is because he likes the project at OGC Nice. If Olivier is not happy at Chelsea, if he wants to play, we will take all the elements into account.”
“I have spoken with Patrick [Vieira] about Olivier Giroud, but we have not spoken with Olivier Giroud.”
Nice currently sit seventh in Ligue 1, 35 points off the top. All due respect to them, Giroud will likely be given more appealing offers if he remains patient for the right opportunity to arise.
He still has plenty to offer, which is why we’d like him to stay, but we understand and respect his desire to play first-team football while he still has the ability to do so.
