Maurizio Sarri is to ask for clarity over his Chelsea future as the contracts held by his backroom staff tick down towards their expiration date, according to the Times.
It seems incredible that we are discussing Sarri’s future as if there is any chance of him being dismissed. On paper, it’s been a successful season.
Chelsea are back in the Champions League, while also reaching the Carabao Cup and Europa League finals. Is that not enough to keep Sarri around?
Knowing Chelsea, possibly not. Sarri clearly doesn’t feel as though his future is entirely secure, with the Times reporting that he’s seeking assurances.
The report mentions that all of his backroom staff are out of contract at the end of the season. For their sake, he wants to know if they, and him, will still be employed.
It’s unclear whether Sarri’s future has already been decided by those above him, or it’ll come down to whether he wins the Europa League later this month.
We’d like to see him get another bite at the cherry, especially considering the only top manager available is Massimiliano Allegri following his departure from Juventus.
Whether Roman Abramovich holds the same opinion – we’ll see.
