Few would be surprised if there was a change of management at Stamford Bridge this summer – but could we see Maurizio Sarri be replaced by a woman?
That’s the question which has been asked by Sky Sports show Sunday Supplement today, as they note that the manager of our women’s team, Emma Hayes, has been linked with the position.

Hayes is highly rated at Chelsea, and rightly so. She’s made the women’s team into a force, taking them to the Champions League semi-finals, before being knocked out by eventual winners Lyon.
There’s no doubting she has the managerial experience and ability to take charge of a men’s side, but how a male dressing room would react to a female authority figure remains to be seen.
Hayes, on paper, is far more equipped to take charge of Chelsea than Frank Lampard, but it’d be a huge risk to employ a female manager while the football world struggles to even accept female punditry.
It’s a genuine travesty that football in 2019 isn’t ready for a female manager to take charge of a club of our stature. We hope that we’ll see the day that someone like Hayes is in the hot seat.
