While Frank Lampard remains the frontrunner for the Chelsea job, the club have concerns over the inexperience of his backroom staff, as per the Times.
Chelsea have shied away from appointing wildcard managers since Roman Abramovich took charge of the club. Andre Villas-Boas is perhaps the only one who would qualify.
However, we are short of options following the departure of Maurizio Sarri to Juventus, which could leave us with nowhere to turn but to Lampard, who has just one season in management.
While the Times recognise the probability of Lampard’s appointment, they note that Chelsea are concerned about the lack of experience of Jody Morris and Chris Jones, both former Blues.
While that may be true, the club cannot seriously consider appointing a manager with just one season under his belt but show concern about the experience of his backroom.
We all know that this would be a risk from the club, but the whole reason that it is being entertained is because it may well prove to be a risk worth taking.
