Chelsea academy coach set for first-team call up upon Frank Lampard’s return

Joe Edwards, coach of the Chelsea U23s, will be handed a role with the first-team upon Frank Lampard’s arrival at the club, according to the Daily Mail.

Edwards is highly rated at Chelsea for the good work he has done with our younger players over the 15 years he has spent with our academy.

He could be set to be rewarded for his efforts over the years, with the Daily Mail reporting that a first-team role lies in wake for when Lampard returns.

It’s claimed that Chelsea see both Edwards’ and Jody Morris’ previous experience working with this current crop of talented youngsters as a major bonus.

It’ll no doubt prove useful to Lampard as he attempts to bridge the gap between the academy and the first-team during his time here as manager.

Their involvement in significant roles could also convince our most prized assets that it’s worth their while staying and battling for opportunities.

We struggle to see any downside to this decision, if it proves to be true.
