Frank Lampard has suggested that Chelsea will not throw in the towel in the title race just because of the strength of the Premier League top two.
Lampard has held his first press conference since returning to Chelsea, with the move being announced by the club early on Thursday morning.
HE’S HOME! 🙌

Chelsea fans have all been waiting for Lampard to face the media in order to find out what he has planned for us – and our new boss hasn’t disappointed!
The Englishman set the benchmark for the coming season by insisting that the strength of the top two will not dishearten him or his players.
Lampard on club expectations: "I played here for many years & I know there are standards. There's a baseline of being competitive… of course, there are variables. We know about the transfer ban, we know Man City & LIverpool pulled away, but we should never stop trying" #cfc

And nor should it. We might not have an adequate squad to challenge for the title, but we’re Chelsea, and aiming below that benchmark would be a mistake.
Lampard ought to instil his own winners mentality into his squad from day one. He has players who have won titles, Champions Leagues, even World Cups.
If you handed top four on a plate to us right now, we’d find it hard to pass it up, but we get the impression that Lampard would be aiming higher.
And that’s why he got the job…
