Chelsea have announced the departure of club legend Gianfranco Zola, with Frank Lampard’s appointment as manager leaving the Italian with no future with the Blues.
Zola’s return to Chelsea last summer as Maurizio Sarri’s assistant was met with an overwhelmingly positive response from the fans, who were delighted to see one of our own in the dugout.
Not all went to plan for Zola and Sarri last term, though, with the latter being driven out to Juventus, leaving his assistant in limbo, unsure as to where his future lies.
Zola has been given clarification over his future on the same day of Lampard’s return to the Bridge, with Chelsea confirming that he has left the club after just 12 months back.
Thanks for everything, Gianfranco. 💙

While it’s a great shame to see a club legend being moved on, it’s important that Lampard arrives with a backroom that he knows and trusts. Clearly Zola did not fit into that.
We wish him all the very best in whatever he chooses to do next!
