New Chelsea legend linked with sensational Blues return in Frank Lampard setup

Former Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole is the latest former Blue to be linked with a return to Stamford Bridge as part of Frank Lampard’s coaching setup, report the Mirror.

Lampard’s return to Chelsea is a sign of the times in SW6. Especially with Petr Cech also being appointed in a technical role, the club appear to be placing great value on those who know the club.

Chelsea lost their identity under Maurizio Sarri last season, with the disconnect between the club and the fans never being more significant since Roman Abramovich bought us in 2003.

Marina Granovskaia appears keen on fixing that rift, with Lampard’s appointment being a considerable step towards achieving that.  There could still be more to follow, though.

The Mirror report that Didier Drogba and Claude Makelele have been linked with positions at Chelsea, with Ashley Cole now being added to the list of potential candidates.

Lampard worked alongside Cole once again at Derby County last season, and appears to be impressed with what he saw. He’s quoted by the Mirror saying:

“First of all, I needed him as a player at Derby. And then there’s the extra stuff in terms of what he brings as a professional.”

“Ash is great for the group. He was always first in at training, friendly with everyone and humble, even though he was the best left-back in the world for a long period.”

Would you like to see Cole back at the Bridge, Blues?
