For the majority of managers, player power in the dressing room would keep you up at night. For Frank Lampard, however, it’s an essential ingredient to building a successful team.
Player power has always been a hot topic at Chelsea, with strong characters in the dressing room proving difficult to handle for some. Mentioning no names, Andre Villas-Boas…
How managers dealt with the ‘old guard’ tended to be a deciding factor in whether or not their tenures in the Chelsea hot seat proved to be memorable.
Lampard knows all about what it took to be triumphant in the dressing room at Chelsea and appears keen on replicating the success he enjoyed throughout his 13 years here.
The former England international is quoted by the Guardian insisting that player power is not something he fears, rather the Blues will need it if success is to be on the horizon:
“I want player power in the dressing room. I think players must have personality. We had a strong dressing room, which was part of the success.”
Lampard is completely fearless which will do him no harm in this job. Let’s just hope that his openness to player power doesn’t come back to bite him in the future.
