Chelsea defender David Luiz has warned his teammates and new head coach Frank Lampard of the expectations of being at this football club – as if the latter wouldn’t already know!
Luiz has played under countless managers during his time as a Chelsea player. He’s seen the good, the bad, and the downright ugly. Lampard’s predecessor, Maurizio Sarri, fell somewhere in the middle.
Lampard will be hoping to learn from Sarri’s mistakes, and those made by the managers who came before, and propel himself into Chelsea history by enjoying success as both a player and a manager.
We’re confident that he has what it takes to pull it off, but we ought to remember that he has one of the most complicated jobs in football, as Luiz has reminded us. He’s quoted by Football London saying:
“I think everyone understands the moment and everyone understands to be patient but in the end everyone wants to win. They are going to be patient in the first six months and then in the last six months they want us to win.”
“It is going to be like that, we have to think about that and do the best to make them happy.”
Thankfully for Lampard, he was ever-present during the most successful period in Chelsea’s history. He knows all about the expectations and what it takes to succeed here. That’ll help him, no doubt.
