Who needs Sarriball when you have Frankieball? That’s what Chelsea fans will be asking themselves after seeing the team in full flow against RB Salzburg yesterday evening.
When Maurizio Sarri arrived at Chelsea last summer, we were told tales of Sarriball and how it was set to revolutionise how we played our football. Perhaps, if given more time, Sarri would have been successful in the implementation process, but to cut a long story short – he wasn’t.
Fast forward 12 months and club legend Frank Lampard holds the reins. We knew little about his style of play prior to his appointment, mostly because very few of us actually tune into the Championship every weekend. We have been given a rough idea during pre-season.
What will be encouraging for Chelsea fans, at least it was for us, was this passage of play during our 5-3 victory over RB Salzburg yesterday evening. We were knocking it about the park like Barcelona under Pep Guardiola. Will Lampard have similar success as a returning former player?
