Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger is closing in on a return to full training as he steps up his recovery from a long-term knee injury, according to Football London.
Rudiger missed the tail end of last season after suffering a seemingly serious injury to his knee. Maurizio Sarri was subsequently forced to field Andreas Christensen in the Europa League final.
While the Dane is a classy defender and looked assured in Baku, Rudiger has established himself as a key player for us. He’s both vocal and formidable at the back, a useful combination.
While Football London report that we’re certain to head into the new season without the German international, they do note that he is set to return to full training with the squad.
That’s excellent news from Frank Lampard’s perspective, with our shaky defence being an issue throughout our pre-season campaign to date. We can’t wait to welcome you back, Rudi!
