Why Frank Lampard may be concerned after Chelsea’s draw with Gladbach

There were positives to be taken from today’s draw with Borussia Monchengladbach, notably the second-half fightback and N’Golo Kante’s long-awaited return.

However, it wasn’t all good news for Frank Lampard, with Chelsea’s defensive woes worsening.

Chelsea’s backline has looked precarious at best throughout our pre-season campaign and there were no improvements during the first-half of today’s contest.

The Blues shipped two goals in quick succession, which left our defensive record in recent pre-season fixtures looking pretty poor, as Nizaar Kinsella revealed.

Chelsea will need to drastically improve heading into the new season if we want to have any hope of achieving our top four ambitions this coming campaign.

The eventual return of Antonio Rudiger will no doubt sure us up in the defensive third, with Kante also coming back into the fond to ease the pressure on them.

Those who have been involved throughout pre-season need to buck up their ideas, however. They haven’t been anywhere near good enough.
