‘It’s always been my club’ – Chelsea midfielder never doubted his career ambitions

Mason Mount has been speaking to Chelsea’s official website about his insistence that he was going to make it at this club – something that all Blues fans will love to hear.

After a successful season out on loan at Derby County in the Championship last season, Mount has been given the opportunity to be part of the first-team squad for this coming season.

Of course, he has benefited from Frank Lampard’s appointment as manager, but he would not have been given this show of faith from his boss if he hadn’t earned it with the Rams.

Mount is looking to be one of very few academy products who have established themselves in the first-team since Roman Abramovich bought the club way back in 2003.

While it is his talent which has placed him in this position, his mentality will certainly have done him a some favours along the way.

Mount has always been adamant that he will make it at Chelsea, as he revealed to the club’s official website ahead of our season opening game against Manchester United:

“It was the start of my Under-16 season and there were other options available but I was always so focused to play for Chelsea. It’s always been my club so I didn’t want to go anywhere else. My goal has always been to make it into the first team. I was so headstrong to work as hard as I could to make that happen and prove those people who say young players don’t make it at Chelsea are wrong.”

This is the thought process that every Chelsea academy player ought to have!
