Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has revealed his belief that his former club will be able to secure a top four finish in the Premier League this season, report the Metro.
Mourinho finished in the top four and secured Champions League football in all but one of his seasons in charge of Chelsea. We all remember what year that was, even if we have tried our best to forget it.
Chelsea have only qualified for the biggest competition in club football twice in the past four seasons, but Mourinho has faith that former midfielder Frank Lampard will be able to make it three in five.
Mourinho is quoted by the Metro saying:
“I think Chelsea can finish fourth. The most difficult job is when you have the job to win. When you finish second, you are best of the losers. The transfer ban relieves the pressure, they have a very good squad. I want to see the direction Frank goes.
Will he start [Olivier] Giroud or Tammy Abraham [against Manchester United]? If Tammy Abraham plays and Chelsea don’t win, people will go in the direction of the young players need time and we won’t win the Premier League. You don’t buy players, you buy time. When you have the pressure, you buy the players and you play to win and you feel the pressure of the man at the top – it’s a much harder job.”
We all know what a difficult campaign lies in wake for Lampard. It’ll be more difficult than even he can imagine. However, we’re in safe hands, and we too believe that a top four finish is entirely realistic.
The hard work starts today…
