Chelsea star on verge of first-team return after completing 90 minutes for U23 side

Antonio Rudiger played 90 minutes for Chelsea’s development side as they drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur U23s on Friday night.

The German underwent surgery on his injured knee earlier this year and subsequently missed the entirety of our pre-season campaign.

He has recently returned to full training and featured for our U23s against Liverpool, who they comfortably brushed aside, in no small part due to Michy Batshuayi.

Rudiger was involved once again for the development side yesterday, with Spurs blowing a two goal lead and allowing Chelsea to claw the game back to 2-2.

He got another 90 minutes under his belt without issue, which suggests that a return to the first-team is now just a matter of time.

Frank Lampard will likely have Rudiger available for selection after the upcoming international break.

That’ll give him quite the selection headache, with neither of Andreas Christensen or Kurt Zouma deserving of being banished to the substitutes.
