Cesar Azpilicueta has been heavily criticised by the Chelsea fan community so far this season, and it doesn’t look like things are going to get any easier for the skipper.
Azpi used to be a guaranteed 7/10 performer. Unfortunately, he’s allowed his standards to slip recently and has subsequently been scapegoated while our results have not been favourable.
It’s not difficult to see why, either. Both of Sheffield United’s goals yesterday afternoon came from crosses swung in from Azpi’s side. He is now far too easy to beat in 1 v 1 situations.
Not only that, but this stat provided by Squawka following yesterday’s draw suggests that he is no longer as productive in possession as he once was, either.

It is clear for everyone to see now just how badly we need Reece James to return from injury and nail down that spot on the right hand side of our back four.
We adore Azpi, and always will, but it’s time for him to be phased out.
