Today marks four years since Chelsea’s transfer banter era peaked

On this day, four years ago, Chelsea achieved something quite sensational. We secured two of the world’s most formidable defenders within hours of each other.

Don’t worry – that’s tongue in cheek.

Today marks four years since Chelsea recruited Papy Djilobodji and Michael Hector, all due respect to the pair, two of the most needless acquisitions in our history.

Hector has never played for Chelsea and likely never will, while Djilobodji was famously involved for a matter of seconds as a substitute against Walsall in the then Capital One Cup.

The Senegalese defender was never seen again, being sent out on loan before joining Sunderland permanently, where he was later sacked for breach of contract.

These two really do represent the peak of our transfer banter era. Some will blame Michael Emenalo for their recruitment, but Marina Granovskaia was involved and she remains.

Someone, eventually, whether it be years down the line, has to answer for their crimes.
