Goal have confirmed that talks between Chelsea and Emerson Palmieri over an extension to his contract are underway – and there’s a good reason for it, too.
Emerson has been one of our star performers so far this season and it’s only right that his increase in prevalence is rewarded by improved terms in his contract.
Financial incentive is not the only reason behind Chelsea’s willingness to tie him down, however, Goal report that they are wary of former boss Maurizio Sarri.
It’s believed that Sarri showed an interest in purchasing Emerson from Chelsea over the summer, but the club were understandably unwilling to let any key players leave with the transfer ban in force.
A new contract would essentially rule out any possibility of Emerson abandoning ship anytime soon, which is excellent news from our perspective, with the Italy international currently one of the best in Europe in the left-back role.
