Eden Hazard always seemed to enjoy his time at Chelsea, but according to his latest interview quoted in the Mirror, it wasn’t always the case.
He reckons training is more fun at his new club, Real Madrid, than it was at Chelsea, at least in recent years with Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Maurizio Sarri’s variously foibled training styles in action.
“The training is always with the ball,” Hazard said in quotes that originate in an interview in L’Equipe .
“When you have experimented with Italians, as I have done with Conte or Sarri, you have much less fun. Everything is more framed.”
“It’s hard to compare [training methods]. I was attracted to Zidane at Madrid and felt very identified”
We can imagine that some of the latter years were less fun for the Belgian, and in fact Mourinho made him do more defending than he would have liked, but they all got him trophies, he can’t deny that.
Now he’s in Spain, probably enjoying the easy life with Zizou doing kickups – but he’s not lifted any silverware just yet. And looking at the size of his stomach back in August, maybe the training wasn’t such a bad thing…
