Chelsea are preparing for a massive night in the Champions League knockout stages as they welcome Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to Stamford Bridge for the Round of 16 first leg.
The German side will be hunting for revenge after becoming victims of Chelsea’s biggest night in their existence in 2012 when they beat them in Munich to win the same prestigious trophy.
Frank Lampard’s team will have added confidence after defeating Tottenham at the weekend, but this is going to be a whole different kettle of fish tomorrow evening.
Lampard has been addressing the media tonight in the Champions League pre-match press conference, and he has delivered some team news.
First of all, he says he will assess whether Olivier Giroud will get the nod after a fine performance at the weekend.
As reported by Football London, Lampard said:
“He [Giroud] was Very pleasing [Saturday] but it’s a tight turnaround after the effort put in. I Need to assess that but how he played was fantastic. Not just the goal but the work he did off the ball and how we defended from the front. He is quality and has given me a lot to think of.”
He also confirms that Callum Hudson-Odoi, N’Golo Kante and Christian Pulisic are all still out injured, but Pedro returns, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek makes the squad again.
He said:
“Christian, Callum, N’Golo are out. Pedro is back in contention after a small injury at the weekend. Callum isn’t far away but not this game. Ruben is fit, in the squad.”
