The Sun have today linked Chelsea with interest in Everton left back Lucas Digne.
Despite a few injuries here and there, the Toffee has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top options, and it’s clear why the Blues would be tempted.
On the other hand, Ben Chilwell is a brilliant option, and he could be back from injury in a couple of months. Spending big money on a top player in that area might not be what we need at this moment. What we need is short term cover, not a long term option.
This whole thing just reminds us of similar recent rumours that we might recall Ian Maatsen from his loan. Yes, it would be great to have them right now, but once Chilwell is back it would look like a very short sighted decision.
Unless we were to sell Marcos Alonso this summer, however… then things might start to add up.
