Chelsea did sign a left back in January after all, but it wasn’t the first team option that fans were hoping for.
In the end they signed 18 year old talent Dylan Williams from Derby Country, and that was pretty much all their business for the month.
But even that addition hasn’t been without controversy.
The Daily Mirror have quotes from Derby manager Wayne Rooney where he claims that the teams who signed players from the struggling Rams had “taken advantage” of his team.
Rooney’s team are in dire straits financially, and essentially couldn’t say no to any decent offer they get. As well as Williams’ move to Chelsea, Crystal Palace moved to sign another starlet, and Wigan got left back Graeme Shinnie on the cheap too.
It was indeed some ruthless operating all round – but Derby have nobody but themselves to blame for the mess they’re in at the moment.
