The final piece has fallen into place for Chelsea to be sold immediately, the Telegraph have just written in an exclusive tonight.
Roman Abramovich had announced he was selling the club, and then government sanctions announced this week forced his hand in letting it go for effectively nothing by preventing it take in or spend any money.
Rather than fight that decision, potentially running the club out of existence in the process, Abramovich has now agreed for a sale to take place, despite the fact that he will effectively not be able to control the terms to any significant degree.
Several bids had been made before the sanctions were announced, and rather than ruin the chances of a sale, the government seem to have successfully accelerated it. A bidding deadline will now run to the end of next week.
The bad news for Chelsea fans is that now our current owner will have essentially no say in who takes over. If you have the money, it’s yours.
Amongst all the bad news surrounding Chelsea this is probably the best decisión Abramovich could take in the best interest of the club, just hope the new owners will continue the legacy left by the Abramovich era.
