Marcos Alonso has asked to leave Chelsea this summer – although the left back hasn’t handed in a formal transfer request.
That’s according to 90min, who claim that Emerson Palmieri will be brought back to the club to replace him as Ben Chilwell’s understudy.
It’s a funny one as formal transfer requests are pretty meaningless now. If he’s asked the club to leave, that is a transfer request. They have no legal weight, so all they are is effectively a petition to the club to inform them of the player’s intentions.
Either way, it makes sense for Alonso to go this summer after 6 years at the club. He played a lot this season but only because of Chilwell’s injury, and all that playing time made Thomas Tuchel more aware than ever of his limitations.
He did at least get to sign off in style, scoring against Leicester on Thursday night with a lovely left footed volley.
