We’ve said since the start that any deal for Inter Milan to take Romelu Lukaku back from Chelsea looks impossible purely in financial terms, but we’re starting to change our mind.
If Chelsea are desperate to get rid of him (which they appear to be) and Inter are desperate to sign him (which they appear to be) and Lukaku is desperate to move (which he definitely is), perhaps something can be done.
Chelsea are open to a salary-sharing loan deal with Inter for Lukaku. It’s clear he wants the move. However, lots of work to be done still. Chelsea want a big loan fee and Lukaku to take a significant wage cut. They won’t proceed on current terms.

It will require some sacrifices on all sides, but it’s doable.
Ben Jacobs of CBS has reported today that Chelsea are open to a salary sharing deal for the Belgian, meaning that Inter would pay (presumably) a huge chunk of Lukaku’s wages.
Lukaku would still have to take a wage cut though, and Chelsea would want a big fee to let him go for the season.
There are a lots of ifs and buts already cropping up – but don’t rule anything out yet.
