If you think about which Chelsea player is likely to have the greatest average shooting distance, there’s only one person who comes to mind – Antonio Rudiger.
The defender has always had a taste for a speculative effort from miles out when a path to goal opens up, and this season he took it to the next level, blasting away more than ever – and finally scoring one too.
But according to FBRef’s average shot distance stat, Rudi isn’t top – in fact he’s 7th.
Top of the pile is – amazingly Jorginho. His average shot distance is 28.8 yards somehow. That’s totally out of keeping with what we’d imagine.
Of course, Jorgi is pretty shot shy, especially for a central midfielder, so a couple of long range efforts are really boosting his average up here, but still, him being top is not what you’d expect.
Can you even remember a single long ranger from Jorginho this season?
