Chelsea have been consistently linked with Jules Kounde for a whole year now, and there have been pretty open admissions from all sides that a deal for the defender was very close last summer, only to collapse because of Sevilla’s transfer fee demands.
The links have reopened this summer, and it’s looked pretty certain that Kounde will finally make the switch this time around.
But you can’t count your chickens until they’ve hatched, and we’re seeing increasing reports from good sources in Spain that Barcelona are keen on the centre back too.
Sport, the Catalan paper who certainly know what they’re talking about when it comes to Barcelona, say that the France international is the central defender which Xavi “likes most” to reinforce his first team.
We’re not panicking just yet – Chelsea have such a strong financial position compared to Barca that we should be able to win out no matter what – but it’s a timely reminder that it’s not a done deal just yet.
